No More Blog Posts, Hallelujah!

It’s probably safe to say that we can consider blog posts to be a specific genre of writing. This genre contains several sub-genres (lists, articles, discussion starters, etc), and may blend with other genres (the posts on Hyperbole and a Half lie right on the border between blog post and comic), but we could also think of several situations that we would not properly consider a blog post per se (like tweets, Facebook status updates, or newly submitted pieces on deviantART). Of course, some might make a case for micro-blogging, but that’s a whole different can of worms, and also a bit of a goose trail, to bring some cliched phrases momentarily in and back out of your life.

If this were an academic paper or scholarly monograph, I would give you a much better definition than a shrug and “You know what I mean, don’t you?” but, frankly, I really dislike writing those.

And, while we’re on the subject, it turns out that I really don’t like writing blog posts, either. They give me the worst writer’s block I’ve ever had in my life. Which is to say that they give me writer’s block that I haven’t been able to figure out how to deal with for the longest time. Until I got some advice on the subject of writer’s block which goes like this:

If you’re having it, it’s probably because you’re trying to make yourself write something you have no interest in writing.

But you know what I do like? I like having new stuff on here for you to read. I love that this software exists and that writers can now provide readers with what is, essentially, a constantly-updating preview of their work. I mean, isn’t that cool? Kid me can think of several authors whose websites she would have frequented far more than is healthy if this kind of thing had been this widespread in the late 90s.

So, in my ever-continuing quest to have for you on this site the Coolest Stuff Ever, this writer’s block torture is going to end, and crazy new things will begin (you would not believe how many ideas popped into my mind almost the instant I finally admitted to myself that I don’t like writing blog posts). Depending on where you follow me elsewhere on the internets, you might see bits of things ahead of time, but each new thing here will also contain stuff that won’t be found anywhere else.

It’s also entirely possible that new updates will arrive here more than once a week, depending on how exciting a thing is and how quickly I get it done but, and this I promise, cross my heart and hope to die, there will always be something new here on Thursdays. Why? Because I totally thought for the longest time I was born on a Thursday, but it turns out that I was born on a Tuesday, so I figured I’d make up for that.

Kidding. Apparently, people open their emails more often on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I picked one of the two at random. The fact that the only connection this has to emails is that they both involve the internet has absolutely no bearing on this conversation. *hugs Thursday and strokes it gently, telling it not to listen to the bad people* *Thursday looks mildly terrified*

So, there you go. See ya next Thursday. Or before then. You never know when a cool idea might leap out onto the screen. And then into your brain. Ideas are tricky like that. :)
