Announcing: These Other Doors (an anthology in progress)

Good news!

Remember the two short stories I talked about a bit two weeks ago, codenamed Green Girl and Psychic Bookstore? Well, I’ve decided on putting them together with a couple other stories into an anthology! The reason this announcement is happening now is because I wanted to wait until I had a really good title for it first.

Before we get to that title, though, I want to explain how this is going to work. It’s not going to be quite a like normal book, where you wait around until the whole anthology comes out.

What I’m going to do is, as I finish the stories, I’m going to make them available to read online. Except for the last one (whichever one that ends up being). That one will only appear in the anthology once it’s published.

When will it be published? Sometime after Hidden in Sealskin. That’s about all the detail I can give right now. I’ve never edited a full-length novel before, especially not the first novel in a series, so I want Hidden to be good and ready before it’s published. I’ve done and started way too many things before they were or I was ready, and I want to stop being all impatient like that. Eating an apple before it’s ripe isn’t going to make it taste any better.

And now, without any further ado, here’s the plan for the anthology:

These Other Doors: A collection of more-than-mundane tales

  • Green Girl: A young woman who was never really human wants only to return to her tree, but the ties she has made to the human world won’t let her leave.
  • Psychic Bookstore: The psychic employee of an unusual bookstore has to discover and stop whatever’s causing its memories to go out of control before she’s permanently trapped by them.
  • Hag Stones: An ordinary girl who’s been friends with a fairy since they were young must save this fairy from the unintended consequences of the stone that made their friendship possible.
  • The Mermaid’s Grotto: A mermaid tries to take over the life of a human that died in her pool without letting slip to friends and family that their loved one has been replaced.

That’s the game plan for now. As things progress (like whenever the stories all get real titles and not just code names), I’ll keep you up to speed, share snippets, etc.

I hope you’re as excited as I am about this anthology! And for Hidden in Sealskin, too. Because novels are always awesome. :)
